Howard Avenue Historic District

The Howard Avenue Historic District is a historic district in The Hill neighborhood of the city of New Haven, Connecticut. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.〔 In 1985, it included 151 buildings deemed to contribute to the historic character of the area. The district includes properties fronting Howard Avenue from Minor Street (just south of Washington Avenue) to Fifth Street (just north of I-95). The portion from Lambertion Street to Fifth Street is also in City Point (which today is considered a section of The Hill). It is a well-preserved array of late-19th to early 20th-century vernacular architecture showcasing the historical development of Howard Avenue as a middle class residential thoroughfare.
Its NRHP nomination asserted that the district "is architecturally significant for the quality and variety of its building stock, which forms the most intact and well-preserved array of late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century vernacular architecture currently standing in the southwestern part of New Haven."〔 and (''Accompanying 27 photos, many from 1984'' )〕
